Police intervention against a Black teenager in the Villeray neighborhood

Montréal, June 21 2021 — The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse is strongly concerned by the images circulating of a police intervention against black teenagers in the Villeray neighbourhood. A police officer appears to be holding his knee on the neck of a teenager. Several fundamental rights protected by the Charter could potentially be at stake, including the right to the preservation of one's dignity, the right to personal integrity and the right to equality.
