A tragic reminder of the systemic discrimination faced by Aboriginal peoples

Montréal,  September 29, 2020 - The Commission wishes to offer its sincere condolences to the family of Joyce Echaquan and to express its solidarity with the Atikamekw community in particular and with all Aboriginal communities following the death of Ms. Echaquan. The Commission condemns the comments heard on the video broadcasted on social media and is deeply concerned by the way Joyce Echaquan was treated and by the systemic discrimination suffered by Aboriginal peoples, particularly in health care.
