The Commission is independent of the government and can therefore criticize bills or policies in order to improve them, says Anne-Marie Santorineos, who is a member of the Commission. In fact, the Commission has been acting on behalf of all people in Québec since 1976, guided by the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.
