The National Assembly marks the 40th anniversary of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms

The Commission is attending today an event marking the 40th anniversary of the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms which was adopted on June 27, 1975. The adoption of this fundamental and quasi-constitutional law was a decisive moment in Québec history which «allowed the province to enter into modernity», underlined Jacques Frémont, the President of the Commission this morning at the National Assembly amongst special guests, including some of the Charter’s pioneers, members of Parliament, and civil organizations’ representatives.

Québec, June 4th, 2015 – The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse is attending today an event marking the 40th anniversary of the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms which was adopted on June 27, 1975. The adoption of this fundamental and quasi-constitutional law was a decisive moment in Québec history which "allowed the province to enter into modernity", underlined Jacques Frémont, the President of the Commission. This declaration was made this morning at the National Assembly amongst special guests, including some of the Charter’s pioneers, members of Parliament, and civil organizations’ representatives. "The 40 years of the Charter’s adoption should not let us forget that we still have a long way to go as a society. The Charter could still be improved, particularly in regards to the economical and social rights" added Mr. Frémont.
