Training session | The exploitation of the elderly or people with disabilities and the Charter

This training session goes deeper into a range of concepts linked to exploitation under the Charter: ageism, respect for autonomy, vulnerability, the notion of profit, etc. The complexities of some situations are outlined and analyzed in order to better understand where to turn if you see or believe you are seeing a case of exploitation. Within these contexts, we describe the roles, the powers and the constraints of various actors, including the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse.

  • Target clientele

    Anyone working in the health and social services network or in a setting involving elderly clients (nurses, social workers, police, people working in financial institutions, etc.), organizations working with the elderly as well as activists who lead human rights and freedoms defence or education projects in this field.

  • Objectives

    • Become familiar with the applicable rights under the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms;
    • Identify and prevent cases of exploitation involving the elderly or people with disabilities, and prevent any recurrence;
    • Explain what means of recourse can be provided by the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse, and how they work.
  • Educational approach

    Content is delivered using discussions, a participatory approach, simulation and other exercises, sharing good practices, and through an interactive presentation.

All our training sessions are free of charge, and take place in the venue of your choice
